Biography

Elisa Carillo Cabrera is the only mexican woman, and the first latinamerican dancer to win all three most important international dance prizes; Danse´s Prix Benois, Russia´s Soul of Dance (one of the the very few non-russian dancer to be awarded this achievement), and St. Petersburg´s Festival Dance Open. She is currently the first dancer in the Staatsballett in Berlin, one of the ten most recognized dance companies in the world.

She is also an ambassador for mexican culture, member of UNESCO´s international dance committee, member of the Mexican Cultural Diplomacy committee, president of the committee for Fundacion Elisa Carilos Cabrera A.C, Sir Anton Dolin´s Fundation artistic director, Co-director for the Compañia NAcional de Danza in Mexico, Ballet Master Degree awarded by Germany Ministry of Culture, and by John Cranko Schule Stutgart.

Elisa´s most recent international award was given by the Petipa Patrimony Trust Fund in Slovenia in 2019. Presented to her for her ongoing efforts in preserving and spreading the legacy of the great Franco-Russian choreographer Marius Petipa, considered “The father of ballet”.

She has participated in multiple galas “Ballet Stars” in 30 countries. She is frequently invited to dance in the Kremlin Gala, in Moscu.

Elisa Carillo was born in Texcoco, Mexico. She studied in INBA´s Escuela Nacional de Danza Clasica y Contemporanea, and in The English NAtional Ballet School. From 1999 to 2007 she was part of the Stuttgart Ballet, beginning in the dance body of the company until she reached the status of soloist. In 2007, she was integrated into the Staatsballet Berlin.

In 2009 she gave life to a bronze-skin “Snow White”, with choreography by Angelin Preljocaj, music by Gustav Mahler and custom design by Jean Paul Gaultier. Elisa Carrillo’s interpretation of Snow White captivated the German critics, making her into Berlin´s Opera new star.

In Mexico, her foundation organizes two main activities that are keystones for the promocion and development of dance and arts in the country; Gala de Estrellas de Ballet “Elisa y Amigos”, which involves the best artists in the world of classic ballet, and “Danzatlan” Festival Internacional de la Danza, which seeks to generate ongoing dialogs in Mexico between choreographers, classic and contemporary ballet dancers, and dance specialists from different countries and nationalities. It also provides a platform for distribution for young mexican craters and dancers. In its only three editions, it has become the most relevant Ballet event in the country.

Elisa has taught ballet classes in Mexico, USA, Germany, and Canada.
